Let me tell you, my journey from being completely broke to prospering as an internet freelancer was everything from smooth. In fact, it began with more bumps and potholes than I’d anticipated. I was desperate.

A year ago, I was scraping by, unsure what tomorrow would bring. Bills piled up, stress levels rose, and all I could think was, “How did I end up here?”

Then one day I came upon the idea of freelancing online, and everything changed. Doesn’t this sound too good? So, let me walk you through what actually happened.

Step One: Panic Mode Initiated

At first, I panicked. No job. There is no cash flow. I have no idea where I’d find work. Except for graphic designers and bloggers, I had little knowledge of freelancing. I had no idea how deep the rabbit hole went. When your bank account is low, your alternatives seem limited.

That’s when I decided I couldn’t afford to wait for an opportunity; instead, I needed to go create one. So I began researching. Nonstop. Every extra second. Learn about freelance websites such as Upwork, Fiverr, and Freelancer. Even the term ‘freelancer’ sounded mysterious to me at the time, but I couldn’t afford to sit around and overthink it.
