Lord Krishna loved playing the flute. He also enjoyed wearing and carrying the peacock feather with him.

Indian mythology states that playing the flute was Krishna’s method of showing his presence.

The flute was the greatest treasure of Krishna. With it, he would delight the general audience. He also played the flute as the confidential messenger to bring Gopis, out of their homes, to play with them.

His flute tones showed his love for his beloved Radha. They had a divine love for each other.

On the banks of the river Yamuna, when Lord Krishna was with Radha he told her that he would be moving from Vrindavan and he would have to go to Mathura to carry on his work.

He had to go to Mathura and protect the good from the wicked. Radha found it difficult to accept the separation. The Lord consoled her and promised to get a flute for her and teach her how to play it as well. Then she could play the flute and invoke him.

Radha was keen to take the divine flute “Aakarshini” or “Aanandini” that Krishna had in his hand. Krishna smiled and told her that His breath flows through his empty reed and…
