Navigating Health Anxiety with Medication

Last year I wrote a piece on my anxiety. Health Anxiety to be exact and it was to be simply an exercise in helping me manage it.

“Journal your experience,” they say.

But I must admit, I’m inept at journaling, despite my love for writing. Perhaps I’ve never been a fan of my own words.

Regardless, I intended to follow up with a ‘Part II’ to my story, one that promised a triumphant ending — a testament to the power of positivity and a healthy lifestyle in overcoming anxiety.

But unfortunately, I just couldn’t.

However, life had other plans.

An anxiety attack, triggered by a disheartening email from someone close, brought me crashing down. My blood pressure soared, and the familiar fear of impending doom engulfed me once more.

It was then that my doctor prescribed Venlafaxine. And you know what happened after that?

Nothing. As in, no more lapses. The best result I could hope for.

It’s brought me back to my normal baseline and has returned to me the quality of life I wanted.
