A new post…

What’s going to happen this time?

Will it go viral?

Will it be your “big break?”

It’s just a constant cycle…

You put in the effort to create high-quality content, but you get no results.

I feel you, 8 months ago I started writing online and was getting nowhere. Now, I have 1,100 followers on Twitter because I understood this…

No one cares about your writing!

Here’s what I did to change that and get:

  • 500,000+ impressions
  • An engaged community
  • Client leads in DMs…

Let’s dive in!

What you can do about it

The problem you have is that you don’t have authority…

— Why should someone listen to you?

Build credibility with your reader to create an audience of engaged readers who respect you as an authority in your niche through your knowledge you’ve shared.

Every successful creator/business owner/ writer all started out with nothing. Follow these steps to go from a no-one to somebody readers can’t get enough of:

Engage with others to build authority

You want to be in everyone’s comment sections…

Doing what?

Showing your knowledge.

Here’s my framework for comments that build authority:

  • Compliment of the article/ their main thought
  • Your take (showing your skills in the niche)
  • Summary of your take
  • Compliment

Let’s look at Medium for an example…

Imagine you are reading articles.

You see someone share their knowledge on the subject being talked about in the comment section…

Then, you go to the next article.

What do you see?

The same person sharing more knowledge in a different comment section.

By this point, you check out their profile and drop them a follow to see more of their thoughts.

The more comments you put out the more growth you will experience!

This builds an audience that cares about your writing.

What exactly is happening here… Why does this strategy work?

It’s all about the quality of your comments. Through the proclamation of your take/ thought on the article you show the reader of your comment that you know what you are talking about. Consequently, they’ll begin to look to you for information in your niche.

You go from a nobody to an expert, in the eyes of the reader in your niche reading your comment.

Any tips when using this method to grow?

Along with adding your value-packed comment, comment under other commenters' posts. This brings their eyes directly to your profile or, they’ll notice your other comment in the comment section and go to your profile.

Find why a reader should listen to you (the big “why?”)

What now?

You have to write content for your new followers proving why they should listen to you.

Let’s look at this article as an example:

How’d I prove my credibility?

I used stats:

  • Time writing

This shows that I know what I’m talking about…

It answers the question:

“Why should I listen to his thoughts?”

Never write a piece of content without sharing some sort of credibility that proves to the reader that they should listen to you.

Quick tip:

Put credibility in the headline or the introduction. This hooks the reader and proves your credibility early on.

Also, doing this leads to your reader having an open mind when it comes to your argument because they respect you due to your achievements.

Wait… I’m a beginner what credibility do I have?

Here’s something I’d like to share with you…

A little secret…

You don’t need that much credibility!

Why?

Your audience is two steps behind you, that’s why they are learning from you.

So, find the small things that would “impress” them:

  • The time you’ve been working
  • Small wins

But what if I am a complete beginner?

In that case, steal credibility…

What does that mean?

Borrow credibility from someone larger than you in your niche by talking about their achievements and breaking them down.

If you are a complete beginner in your niche you need to study, but if you still want to create content while you are learning this is the method for you…

If you want to write about fitness, talk about a larger fitness creator’s teaching.

Then, as you learn more about your niche and create achievements then, you can talk more about yourself.

Outlast the competitors

Who would you rather read from:

Person A:

Been sharing high-quality information in their niche for 3-weeks.

Person B:

Been sharing high-quality information in their niche for 12 months.

That’s the sad reality of being a beginner, those who’ve been in the game for longer than you will have an upper edge.

Which is why I encourage you to stick with it through the hard times and keep sharing high-quality content. It took me 6-months till I started to find real growth in my Twitter.

During those 6 months I:

  • Wrote 2–3 tweets daily
  • Wrote 1–2 threads weekly
  • Engaged with others (poorly) for hours
  • Studied the top creators

Consistently, I put in the work to lead to the results I wanted.

Would it have been nice if it went faster?

YES!

But the experience has built up my grit and tolerance to problems.

Short story about outlasting competition:

Once, I and this one guy were both at 49 followers and we both followed each other…

We were each other’s 50th follower so, we DMed each other.

We talked about content creation, goals, and what we were studying.

We both did this part-time, and he ended up quitting. On the other hand, I stuck with it for the next 5 months and now have 1,100 followers on Twitter. It’s all about staying consistent with your action and staying in the game.

Thanks for reading!
