There Aren’t 24 Time Zones?

My fiancée was doing one of those online quizzes — you know, the ones that apparently everyone is all but addicted to, that asks you a bunch of nonsense questions and then concludes such helpful nuggets as “if you were one of the Rugrats characters, you’d be Phil”.

Anyway, so she did one of these quizzes. And one of the questions was “how many time zones are there”. She happened to be reading this one out loud, so I just responded without thinking “well, the answer in that quiz is probably 24, but that’s not the right answer”. 24 was the highest choice, so she punched in 24, and of course, got it “right”.

(I don’t remember what type of pasta that meant she was, but that’s not the important part of the story.)

The first thing that came to mind at that point was that scene in Star Trek where Picard is shouting “There. Are. Four. Lights.” at his captor (skip to 3:15 if you don’t have a whole 4 minutes to spare). Also, I have to be honest, I never really watched Star Trek, so credit goes to this relevant xkcd that first taught me about the scene.
