Can You Still Breastfeed with Diabetes?

Yes.

Diabetic moms can breastfeed for the first six months exclusively. It does not matter if you have gestational diabetes, type 1, or type 2; you can still breastfeed while being a diabetic.

  • Just make sure you keep a close eye on your diet and lifestyle.
  • Make smart choices and avoid toxins such as smoking and processed sugary and fatty foods.
  • Make sure your doctor monitors your newborn immediately after labor to be sure that your baby’s blood sugar levels are normal and stabilized. — If they are not stabilized, your doctor may give oral or intravenous glucose to help with this adjustment.
