On Healing
A Lament
How do you heal the adult whose inner-child still weeps?
Her shattered sense of self criticized and daily beaten —
“you can’t” “give up” and “who do you think you are?”
If you could go back in time and spare the inner-child
would you show her the art of knowing and doing —
Breathe hope into her deflated lungs and restart her heart?
Would it be so hard to convince her of these simple truths ?
— Yes, you can. You will. You know who you are
and — Stop thinking and trying, and just do
And once the inner-child knows these truths to be true
and her confidence grows with each moment of doing
will the adult unbandage her wounds and be healed too?
