On Your Birthday

Outside, it’s still cloudy, dark
the wind stirs the landscape
the breeze, perhaps, is
becoming spring
or still encumbered with fragments of winter
or maybe it will bring the promise of summer
like you
the wind is fresh
the sky dark
like you
I don’t know yet what the day will bring
a thousand possibilities
between the sun in waiting
and the brewing clouds
