One Decision Away From Everything
How is your life decided? Is it you? Is it someone else? We’ll look through it in this article.
From the very moment you were born, your paths have been decided or so I think they have. Here, I would like to give emphasis the fact that I have mentioned “paths” and not “path”. To the moment you’ve been conscious about knowing that you are acting by yourself, there are innocent irrational decisions. Then comes the thing I’m talking about. The real decisions. The smallest of the decisions. You might not feel like it but that really is how it all works.
Try to internalize it for a moment. Every seemingly small decision branches out to other small decisions and so on, the paths that you chose light up and the other ones remain in the background just as something that could’ve been.
That one time someone decided to go to a bar on a bad day and met the love of their life. That one time a scout showed up to a random football game and a seemingly-amateur player got a chance for a tryout because of his brilliant performance. That one time someone won a million dollars in the lottery. All of these seem very very lucky. The situations look like they were meant to be. But are they?
What I think is that every other decision has led to the moment you’re in right now. What if that someone never had the money for a restaurant? What if that player gave up his footballing dream or chose not to play that very game? What if that someone never had the money to buy a lottery ticket even if they wanted to? Yes, things happen. Luck seems to appear. But that is the path you’ve unlocked because of your other smaller, seemingly-insignificant decisions. The moment you decide to go to bed. The moment you decide to wake up. The moment you decide to eat, workout, study, enjoy, and think something new, every single one of those moments may not seem like they count but like I’ve said in the previous example, it’s not what does the change but unlocks the path to change. A new timeline, which previously wouldn’t have been possible if not for your decisions.
Yes, I think your life has already been decided. Decided in a way that you still have control over the possible options on the left; each branching out a new wave of possibility.
That right there is the beauty of life. Making it seem like you have no control right when everything is right within you. Every dream that you have. Everything you have ever thought of is right within your grasp. Just an hour of sleep sacrifice away. Just an act of courage away. Just an action away.
Everything.
Is.
Possible.
These are not words of encouragement for anyone.
This is just the way I view life.
This is life.
