Oops, I Hit Snooze Again: Breaking The Morning Procrastination

The alarm goes off, and instead of leaping out of bed ready to take on the world, we press that tempting little button: Snooze.

Suddenly, what feels like two seconds later, we are jolted awake, now in a mad rush, thinking “Not again!”

Sound familiar?

Well, fear not! I have been on the same sleepy boat, but together, we can get our mornings back on track.

Why do we love that snooze button so much?

Imagine: it’s cold outside, but you are snug in bed. The pillow feels just right, the blanket’s warmth perfect.

Then — BAM!

The alarm.

But instead of waking up, we choose a few more minutes of coziness.

Why? Because it’s comforting, familiar, and let’s face it — mornings can be tough!

But constantly hitting snooze? It’s like being promised a chocolate chip cookie and getting only a crumb. It’s never as satisfying as we think.

Good things come to those who wake

Before we delve into the ‘how’, let’s talk about ‘why’.

Why should we even bother trying to break this snooze habit?

  1. A calm start: No more rushing means a smoother, stress-free morning.
  2. Time for you: Be it reading, exercising, or just enjoying your coffee slowly, mornings can be ‘you’ time.
  3. Feeling more awake: Believe it or not, those extra snoozes can make you feel groggier. A regular wake-up time can make you feel more refreshed.

Tips to ditch the snooze

Now, for the fun part! Here are some easy steps to kick that snooze habit:

1. Move that alarm!: Put it across the room. Yes, it’s a classic trick, but it works. If you have to get out of bed to turn it off, you are less likely to dive back under the covers.

2. One step at a time: Going from a night owl to an early bird won’t happen overnight. Try waking up just 10 minutes earlier each day. It’s a tiny change, but it can make a big difference.

3. Have something to look forward to Maybe it’s a delicious breakfast or your favorite song. When there is something exciting in the morning, getting up isn’t so bad.

4. Buddy up: Find a friend who is also trying to wake up earlier. Send each other morning texts or selfies. It’s like a morning wake-up club!

But I’m a night person…

And that’s totally cool! This isn’t about changing who you are. It’s about feeling your best, whenever you decide to start your day.

If you thrive at night, embrace it! Just remember, the idea is to wake up feeling good, not groggy.

Little changes, a big impact

It’s amazing how tiny tweaks to our routine can have such a massive impact. Think about it: remember the last time you had an uninterrupted morning? No rush, no stress, just a calm start. It felt good, right?

We might tell ourselves, “I’m not a morning person,” and maybe we are not. But I bet we can all be “have a good morning” people. By creating a morning that we can look forward to, the day starts on a high note.

Final thoughts

Life is too short for “Oops, I did it again” moments with our alarm clocks. Sure, the journey from “Team Snooze” to “Team Awake” is not easy.

There will be days when that bed feels like a magnet. But, little by little, with a sprinkle of determination and a dollop of humor, we can reclaim our mornings.

And hey, if you happen to hit that snooze button now and then, don’t sweat it. We are only human. Celebrate the days you succeed and chuckle at the days you don’t.

Because let’s be honest, there is always tomorrow morning, right? And more coffee. Always more coffee.
