Our lives —
a series of moment
clips in a reel of film.

Spokes on a wheel of whole.

I think this thought
as I kiss my youngest’s forehead.
He lays comfortably in bed,
his beloved cat sprawled,
with furry cheeks
on a sea, teal pillow.

I’m about to retreat
outside to
meditate on my hammock,
an evening necessity to be my best self,
so I gently tell my son,
“I love you; I am so proud of who you are.
I will be enjoying nature
if you would like to join.”

Then, I pause
capturing the still frame
of his one-dimpled smile,
reveling in the magical presence.

Before leaving,
I look down at my feet —
a tool for shrieking me back to
the now,
