Over the Horizon

To all those left behind

You try to forget me
But I’m already gone.
You look out at the Ocean,
You watch the ships fall.
You know too well what the truth will behold —
Like those who wait for their loved ones to call.

The wind whistles and teases your ear
While distant voices become unclear.
You quickly forget you’re deep underground
With no comfort, no one to be found.

Hands clasped tightly around your head,
You rock yourself back and forth,
For no reasoning reaches the dead,
For my ship is no longer tied to this shore.
