What Happened

During a routine doctor visit, the doctor ordered a Brain MRI and a Carotid Ultrasound (blood flow measurement to the brain). My internet research showed a large number of possible results, some major and some trivial. I had no idea what to expect since I had no matching symptoms.

I expected a bad experience with both.

The Tests

For the first one, I had to strip down to my underwear and put on a robe. You can’t have any objects, like phones or watches. I even had to tell them about the staples in my chest from heart surgery and my dental implant.

For the second test, I just wore my regular clothes.

The brain scan

To start, I had to lie on a table and put my head in a U-shaped device. The technician then put headphones on my ears with the connector going over my eyes instead of the back of my head. They piped in music, the same that I would hear at the City Fire nightclub. I held an emergency squeeze bulb in my hand in case of unendurable problems.

I was told that the MRI was loud. I expected a very loud buzzing or something like a car…
