I am about to publish my first book of poetry and wrote this poem for the prologue. Read it out loud, my friend, and tell me how you like it.

Poetic Prologue

Will a wee whimsical poem do,
In place of classic prologue?
Yes! Artistic freedom says ‘boo’,
To the editorial frog!

Who is in the audience?
Let me feel your heart to know you.
Whether near or far poetry kins,
I think it’s time our friendship grew.

Did you say you adore poetry?
With variety, rhythm, and rhyme?
Then do dive in and make merry,
I promise a jolly good time.

Ah, you can take it or leave it?
Have a read now, take its measure,
Else I know you might just forfeit,
Many an excellent pleasure.

You aver poetry’s not for you?
Come then, it’s time to take a chance,
Give serendipity its due,
And fall in love with its romance.

I love poetry and writing it,
Join me, my pleasure multiply,
Let’s sip life’s heady spirit,
Then tell me what you like and why.
