You still staring at your phone screen. Your tasks are still pending. You think to start it, but can’t start it.

This is exactly how my life was look like.

If you are someone already doing great, you can feel free to skip this article and read other valuable stuff out there.

If you are someone like me sick of procrastination this is exactly for you. Here I’m going to share you 4 easy steps to help you stop procrastinating and get things done.

I struggled a lot of my time in this loop. Finally, I figured it out what’s wrong with me.

I complicated things. This is what you shouldn’t do.

Let’s dive in.

4 Steps to Get into Work

  1. Stop overthinking and also over planning
  2. Plan in advance
  3. Follow minimalistic routine
  4. Follow 70% rule

Stop Overthinking and Also Over Planning

Spending most of the time in thinking part will suck. You shouldn’t overdo thinking part.

When you spend too much time, you’re burning so much of your mental energy.

The result:

  • you ended up with no energy to work.
  • already lost in the thinking dilemma.

Solution: Make a plan. Start taking the first action step.

Plan Ahead

Plan your day the night before. This way, you won’t be influenced by the day’s events. You’ll have a clear idea of what needs to be done and what your priorities are.

This helps you stay focused and avoid distractions.

Follow a Simple Routine

A simple routine can help you avoid feeling overwhelmed.

For example, before starting a task, I used to:

  • Start the stopwatch
  • Set up my workspace
  • Silence my phone
  • Search and find a best focus music on YouTube
  • Open a time tracking app and start the timer to see how long I’m doing the work.

Can you see how I’m overcomplicating my tasks?

The result wasn’t apparent; I couldn’t even get started on the work. I got lost in the preparation stage, making it difficult to begin.

Solution:

Consider this alternative:

  • Work in your usual spot.
  • Silence your phone.
  • Download favorite music offline.
  • Play music and start working.

“Less is more”

70% Rule

This rule is simply says, when you have 70% of clarity, take action on the knowledge you already have.

“It’s like driving a car at night. You never see further than your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way.” — E.L. Doctorow

  • You don’t need to see the whole path to move forward. Just focus on the next step or two.
  • You can make progress without a complete plan. Starting with 50% clarity is perfectly fine.

Takeaway

  1. Start working as soon as possible in the day.
  2. Stick to a simple routine to avoid distractions.
  3. Minimize time spent overthinking tasks.
  4. If you only have 50% clarity, it’s okay to start where you are.

And remember,

You don’t need to see the entire path ahead to make progress. Just as long as you can see the next step or two.
