It’s no secret that content marketing is one of the best ways to attract traffic to your website and increase your customer base, but what happens when that strategy stops working? If you find that not only are your new articles not attracting an audience, but also there’s been a steady decline in traffic over the past few months, it could be due to any number of reasons. Here are some common reasons why your articles may be struggling to attract readers and how you can fix them today!

No platform or following

You have no audience. That’s it. Without someone to care about what you’re writing, there is no point in any of this. It doesn’t matter how good your content is; without readers or followers, the content is just a tree falling in the forest with nobody around to hear it. If you’re trying to build a following from scratch, this can take years — but there are things you can do right now to get at least some people following you and your blog’s updates. The first step is very simple: find other bloggers who have audiences and ask them if they will link back to one of your posts on their blogs.

Bad SEO

One possible reason your articles are struggling is because of the bad SEO, or search engine optimization. More often than not, the lack of attention comes from articles with tags or titles that have nothing to do with the content being written. Choosing a proper name for a post could be crucial for gaining more attention on search engines. If readers find it hard to identify what the post is about based on its title, they’re going to end up scrolling past it. Always consider factors like keyword selection and appropriate tags when writing a new post.

Poor design

Many people mistakenly think that they don’t need a design that will catch the eye. However, what matters is whether or not your content is catching the eye and then captivating the audience. Sometimes good design is the difference between getting your content read or ignored. There are countless aspects of a design from color, and fonts, to layout and more that can help make your work stand out from the competition.

Not useful

You might be suffering from a lack of content marketing strategy. A good strategy is key to engaging and enticing readers. Another reason might be that your articles are too long. With information overload being such a prevalent problem on the internet, shorter articles are much more appealing. Additionally, if you want your blog or articles to grow in popularity it’s important not only to write but also to promote them by tweeting or sharing links with potential readers on Facebook or Linkedin.

You may also have been posting too often without promoting your new posts and getting people engaged enough with you and your content for them to visit more than once a day. Posting more than one time per day can get overwhelming for some people because they feel like they’re missing out if they don’t keep up.

Doesn’t provide value

Once again, not enough value. Unless your articles are informational, they are going to struggle for attention. However, if you follow the advice from this post and include some interesting features (infographics), your posts will be able to engage with readers a lot more. Providing them with information in a creative way will guarantee that they can retain this information much easier as well. You should also take into consideration what type of topics you are choosing. For example, creating content related specifically to current events is one of the best ways to make sure people come back for more.
