Red Dead Redemption 2 — The GOAT?
The one that changed my perspective on gaming.
The first game I’m going to talk about is the one that changed my perspective on gaming: Red Dead Redemption 2. I believe it’s one of the best games ever made in the industry.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is a 2018 action-adventure game developed and published by Rockstar Games. The game is the third entry in the Red Dead series and a prequel to the 2010 game Red Dead Redemption. The story is set in a fictionalized representation of the United States in 1899. It follows the exploits of Arthur Morgan, an outlaw and Van der Linde gang member, who must deal with the decline of the Wild West while attempting to survive against government forces, rival gangs, and other adversaries.
It’s nothing less than a movie — the beginning, the climax, the twists and turns — everything was beautiful. It was a thrilling ride filled with action, emotions, joy, sorrow, and more.
The gameplay spanned over 60 hours, with more than 90 missions and a cast of memorable characters, from our beloved protagonist Arthur Morgan to the ever-loyal John Marston, the protagonist of Red Dead Redemption.
I do agree with some of the critics that the beginning of the game is slow and a bit dull. The first hour to an hour and a half, especially the first chapter, can feel tedious. But as soon as the second chapter kicks in, the game picks up, and your interest only deepens from there. Once you’re immersed, you’ll lose track of time playing.
One thing I want to mention specifically is horse mechanics. The way the game portrays horse mechanics is the best I’ve seen in any game. The need to care for the horse — feeding it, cleaning it, and petting it — is a standout feature. Compared to vehicle mechanics in other games, the horse mechanics in this game truly shine.
As many of you know, Red Dead Redemption 2 is a prequel to 2010’s Red Dead Redemption. However, when RDR was released, Rockstar Games, the publisher, had no plans of creating a prequel featuring Arthur Morgan. Fun fact — Arthur was never even mentioned in the 2010 game. So, connecting RDR 1 and RDR 2 was a big task, and oh boy, the way everything culminates in RDR 2 sets up RDR 1 perfectly. It was just amazing.
So, should you play this game? The answer is a resounding YES.
If I were to rate it, I’d give it a perfect 10/10.
Red Dead Redemption 2 isn’t just a game; it’s an unforgettable experience that sets a new standard in storytelling and gameplay. Whether you’re a longtime fan or new to the series, this is a journey you simply can’t afford to miss.
