Are Americans getting more ignorant?
Despite the fact that the U. S. has long been the leader in scientific research, that hasn’t affected the average American very much.
The relatively small number of science books, articles, and research papers published annually do not reach a wide audience. Students can graduate from high school with few (if any) actual science classes such as physics and chemistry.
It was quite clear that something was amiss when an Arizona man died in 2020 after ingesting fish tank cleaner since Trump said that chloroquine phosphate would kill/prevent the Covid-19 virus.
Chloroquine phosphate used to be prescribed for malaria but is no longer prescribed. What made people think it would be safe then? Others ingested Lysol, poisoning their own bodies.
It is difficult enough to understand that Meth addicts stretch their drug with toilet cleaner fluid, but they are addicted. What makes sane and otherwise healthy people ingest substances that, based on their ingredients, are harmful or even poisonous?
Now we have a measles outbreak on our hands. A child has died. Vaccination rates are down, and not just in Texas. While most schools require students to be vaccinated, in many states it is very easy for parents to get an exemption for their children.
