Religious practices foster mental wellness

If leaders really want to support mental health in public schools, they should allow students to practice their religion. Educators should not direct students on how or what to believe.

As they do in other areas of school life, educators should be able to support their students if the student desires to observe religious practices. Just as educators often support students’ needs for acceptance, physical education, or food, they should be allowed to help students meet their spiritual needs.

Faith or religion is a very important method for many people to find calm or mental wellness.

Schools are an important part of the community

Personal belief systems and faiths should be accepted and supported in schools, when and if students choose.

Freedom to express ourselves contributes to safety and good mental health.
