Running Thoughts | Dream Big, Run Bold
Why Playing It Safe Keeps You From Your Best Kilometers
Lately, I’ve been reflecting on my running.
The more I think about it, the more it feels like I’ve been running in circles — not just on the roads, but in my mind. The questions pile up faster than the miles ever could. And somewhere along the way, the joy I used to feel — the lightness that came with lacing up my shoes — has started to feel heavy.
Am I running enough? Am I fast enough? Will I ever be enough as a runner?
Maybe you’ve felt this too: the pull of ambition weighed down by the constant need to do more, to be more. And yet, the more I chase it, the further away it seems to get.
Small Dreams Keep Us Small
When I first started running, my dreams were tiny. Run for five minutes without stopping. Then maybe run a kilometer. A 5K felt like a Herculean effort.
Back then, every little win felt monumental. The first time I finished a 10K, I was over the moon. But as the distances grew, so did my expectations. A half marathon wasn’t enough; I needed to run a full. And when I crossed that finish line, I immediately asked myself, What’s next?
