Running Thoughts | The Art of Showing Up for a Run
Just Run
Context: I wrote this article in October of 2024 when I was at a low point due to burnout from work — more on this in a future article. It was the day I was supposed to be running a fall marathon but due to my energy, fitness, and overall health being so low, I wasn’t able to race, let alone train. Running at the level my training program required felt impossible. I wrote this article as a reminder to myself of what is important when it comes to running. Enjoy!
You know, if there’s one habit every runner should master, it’s the art of showing up and running.
If I think about my journey over the last five years, the thing that has made the biggest difference isn’t the new shoes, finding the perfect training plan(s), or even race day strategies — it’s the simple act of showing up and running.
Not overcomplicating it.
Just accepting the truth every day: Just run.
These days, I don’t overthink it… well, not as much as I used to. The time between deciding to run and actually running now is minimal — 60seconds. I just get out there.
