Scared of Presenting at Work? Here’s How to Recover If You Panic
All you need is a few strategies to distract your audience
If you’ve ever experienced your mind going blank in the middle of a presentation at work, you know the feeling of terror that ensues. Your heart beats furiously, your mouth goes dry, and you can’t speak.
All you can see is a sea of faces staring at you, wondering why you’re not saying anything.
Don’t worry; it happens to everyone eventually.
Even experienced trainers and leaders have bad days when carefully prepared notes turn to gibberish.
Maybe we’re stressed or tired. But occasionally, we lose the plot in a presentation and can’t remember what to say next. It’s okay to make mistakes. I’ve been training groups of employees since the 80s, and I still have moments where I forget what I’m supposed to say and look like a demented deer in the headlights.
But over the years, I’ve developed some strategies for those moments when I lose my words:
