The investment scene in some countries, like the United Kingdom, is not accessible to the majority of people. In order to participate, one must either be a high net-worth individual (HNWI) or a sophisticated investor. To self-certify as an HNWI, one must earn at least £100,000 per year or have net assets of at least £250,000 (excluding property and pension rights). This exclusivity makes it a pretty exclusive club.

Angel investing is often portrayed in popular media, such as the TV show Dragon’s Den, where successful entrepreneurs like Peter Jones and Deborah Meaden invest in small companies with the aim of growing the businesses and exiting for a profit. The ultimate goal is for the company to go public and get listed on the Stock Exchange.

However, angel investing is not just limited to TV. There are numerous angel investors around the world who look for early investment opportunities and sometimes reap huge returns. For example, Mike Walsh invested $10,000 in UberCab in 2010, which turned out to be a monumental success story.

Uber is now a well-known company and its co-founder, Mike, has become incredibly successful with tens of millions of dollars in earnings. This was only his second venture investment, which highlights the potential rewards that can come with this type of investment.

However, it is important to note that not all start-up companies will have the same outcome as Uber. Many start-ups fail, and this failure rate is to be expected in the world of investments. This is why it’s crucial to diversify your investments and spread your risk when looking for that big win.

For those who do not have a large chequebook and are not located in Silicon Valley, finding suitable companies to invest in can be challenging. This is where VC Crowd comes into play. It offers a platform for people to connect and invest in start-up companies, providing a way to access this type of investment opportunity.

JOIN THE CLUB

VC Crowd is a community of angel investors who specialize in investing in small, private companies. These investors bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the table, making them well-equipped to identify suitable investments and support the growth of these companies.

Investing in private companies is a different process than investing in publicly traded companies, as there are no quoted prices. Instead, investors negotiate directly with the company to reach an agreement on the price and terms of the investment.

Once a deal has been struck, the necessary legal agreements are drawn up and the transaction is completed. This process can be costly, requiring a substantial investment, and to minimize risk, it’s best to diversify the portfolio by repeating the process multiple times.

Traditionally, this type of investment has only been available to a select few. However, VC Crowd has introduced a new element to the process — crowdfunding. This allows for a wider range of investors to participate, making angel investing accessible to a broader audience.

VC CROWD

As a VC Crowd member, you have the chance to join for a low monthly fee that you can pause or resume at any time.

Monthly, you will receive a portion of portfolio shares, equivalent in value, in private companies that have been deemed to have exceptional potential by experts.

So far, this is my portfolio…

LifeSafe Technologies was listed on the AIM Market in July 2022, which means that the investor will no longer receive any additional shares from that company through VC Crowd. The investor now has several options for their portfolio of shares, including holding them for the long-term or selling them on the secondary market. Although the investor has not yet tried to buy or sell shares on the secondary market, they have a plan to let their portfolio grow and wait for that big winner.

One such company that could potentially be a big winner is Happy Drinks Co, which has secured contracts with M&S and Lidl. However, the investor acknowledges that there is always a risk involved in investing and that there is no guarantee that any of the companies will perform exceptionally well. Despite this, the investor is satisfied with VC Crowd as it is not based on cryptocurrency and automatically provides exposure to a diverse range of companies across different industries.

VC Crowd is also a passive investment opportunity, with optional webinars and other community engagement opportunities available. However, the investor is not required to participate in these events if they do not wish to. The cost of membership is as low as €89 per month and can be paused or resumed at any time.

Visum Technologies Plc

VC Crowd, a company actively participated in the restructuring of Ridercam Technologies in 2022. As part of the restructuring process, the unique and proprietary technology of Ridercam was sold to Visum Technologies Plc and VC Crowd provided investment to Visum to support its successful Initial Public Offering (IPO) in July 2022. Since the IPO, Visum’s management team has been able to secure several business and strategic contracts to drive growth.

VC Crowd has a share allocation in Visum Technology, which will be distributed to members this year at a price of 18p, even though they are currently trading at 22p. If an existing VC Crowd member pays for their share allocation for four consecutive months, they will receive Visum shares worth 50% of their payments. For instance, if a member pays €916, they will receive Visum shares worth €458. As of January 2023, these shares are estimated to be worth around €560.

However, it’s important to note that there is no guarantee that the shares will retain the same value later in the year or they may even increase in value. In addition to the Visum shares, members will also have regular allocations of shares in other companies. If you’re not yet a VC Crowd member, you can join the company before April and receive your Visum share allocation after making four consecutive monthly payments.
