Life is too busy nowadays, isn’t it? Whether it’s school, work, or any other job, it seems like there’s just too much on our plates and too little time on our hands. Sometimes weeks go by when we realize that we haven’t taken a break as simple as going out for a walk. In this process of being solely driven by ambition for work, an individual can lose connection with themselves.

There comes a time when there is a huge gap between who a person is and what they’ve always wanted to become. To maintain that connection, it is essential for us to consciously set aside some time for Self-reflection.

Self-reflection simply means to take some time to analyze your own thoughts and beliefs, it’s like looking at yourself in the mirror with all your strengths and weaknesses. An important aspect of self-reflection is thinking about your problems through, going over the circumstances, and realizing your mistakes instead of beating about the bush and playing the blame game. Self-reflection helps us to review our behavior in different situations and work on our issues, with a healthy positive outlook. Self-reflection is a learning process, it helps us to grow into individuals we aspire to be.

The main focus of self-reflection is to view our problems and come up with possible solutions in order to not cram up our mental well-being with worries that could’ve easily have been dealt with in their own time. Here a few ways you can practice self-reflection:

1. Be Forgiving

As cliched as it may sound forgive, and forget. Life is too short to hold grudges even with yourself, and not to appreciate the good things that come your way.

2. Be Honest with Yourself

Admit it or not, we all have 3 different personalities. One for the world, one for our close family and friends, and one for ourselves. You may get away with lying with the first two but you will do great damage if you lie to yourself. Look in the mirror, have a candid conversation with yourself, and speak about whatever is going in your mind. Sometimes we see things to be so complicated in our heads but once we say them out loud, they get simplified automatically.

3. Practice Digital Detox

Set out a time of the day, away from all devices, and think about the way you handled the day, and what you could do to improve. The best time to do so is one hour before bed or early in the morning. This exercise will help you clear your head, allow you to see the bigger picture, and aid you in making good decisions for the day.

4. Know your Values and Communicate

It is imperative to set boundaries in life; to understand what you like, what you dislike, and what’s important to you. Then make sure that you are able to communicate it clearly to those around you as well.

So, let’s aim to take out some time for ourselves and self-reflect.
