Working from home sounds like a fast track to having all the time in the world. At least, that’s what people think. In truth, it’s a lot of self-discipline and strict defense of your time so you can get your work done.

Setting work-from-home boundaries that stick is important to protect your time, your energy, and keep you from becoming resentful.

Zone defense is key.

Even if it makes you look like a rude asshat.

The WFH Scenario That Kicked Off This Article

Last night I had an important onboarding webinar to attend for a new client. When I signed onto the meeting my headphones would not connect. Worse — the volume button on my computer would not adjust down. So this guy’s voice began blaring through my computer speakers and I was scrambling to fix the problem.

It took about four minutes to fix the issue, and three of those minutes were spent shooing “helpful” housemates out of my office and settling their frustration over the noise.

It really was annoying. But not half as annoying as my inability to concentrate on the Zoom meeting after…
