Seven Strange Things No One Talks About Early Motherhood
I bet you didn’t know them.
“A good mother puts her baby first during the day; she does the same at night. After all, aren’t women biologically designed to do this stuff?” wise words from someone I once knew.
I knew motherhood was hard. While everyone openly acknowledges the sleepless nights and emotional overdose, there are a few things I got to know only after I had a baby.
Fellow expecting mothers, I’m sharing a few words of wisdom here so they don’t blindside you during your early postpartum. Here are those little-known hardships:
1. Late Love
Lesson 1: You don’t love your baby right away.
“You’ll cherish the memory of holding her the first time forever,” my cousin shared with gleaming eyes. “I cried. That’s how much you’re gonna love her,” I stared, dazzled by her tale.
After my traumatic c-section, all I wanted to do was live. The pain was unbearable. I don’t remember the first time I held or nursed my baby. Those memories are from a part of my life I want to forget.
