Silvio Berlusconi, former Italian PM and senator, passed away at San Raffaele Hospital, Milan, aged 86. His brother Paolo and children Eleonora, Barbara, Marina, and Pier Silvio arrived at the Lombard clinic. Berlusconi had been admitted for “scheduled checkups” linked to his chronic myelomonocytic leukemia and a lung infection.

Starting as a contractor, Berlusconi became a symbol of Italian entrepreneurship in the late 1970s and 1980s. He played a pioneering role in private television and achieved numerous accolades during his 28-year tenure as AC Milan president, including 7 Scudetti and 5 Champions Leagues.

Entering politics in 1994, Berlusconi served in less than four governments before stepping down in 2011 during a financial crisis. Leading Forza Italia for nearly three decades, he was part of the governing coalition led by Giorgia Meloni in the last election, while also being elected as a senator.
