Things get crazy at times. It’s easy to forget our sense of self when life bashes us in every direction.

We lose touch with the journey and the adventure we’re sailing. The waters get troubled and ebb our flow.

The number of times I’ve heard the advice, be yourself. It always seems like the most valuable advice someone can throw at you for any situation.

It works for job interviews, a first date, stronger relationships, and how to be in general.

It’s one of those old sayings that we got comfortable hearing and giving. We don’t give much attention to the meaning behind the words.

For you to be yourself, you must first know yourself. The never-ending cycle of understanding who you are doesn’t come easy, no one ever teaches you how to do it.

There is no questionnaire you take on Facebook that will you give you the answer. It doesn’t matter what you can spot in a picture at the psychologist. Someone else’s opinion doesn’t help since it’s impossible to grasp the depth of another person. There’s much more to you than that.

Finding yourself

We learn to ask questions in the 5 Ws. You know the ones. Teachers stress their importance, yet the ones we use the least are the why and how.

The Why helps you find purpose. The only thing that makes existence worth being. Without one, what’s the point?

Everything has a reason to exist regardless of whether we see it or not. It comes from the ancient, universal law of cause & effect. Every cause has an effect and every effect has a cause. The same law applies to all things.

Sometimes actions seem so small that we assume their reactions will be insignificant. Take for example our planet. Most of us would assume that the mistreatment we show her affects us in a direct, instant way. It doesn’t. The bigger the action, the longer it takes for a reaction to manifest. This works from the smallest of things to the biggest.

Your purpose doesn’t have to be big for it to have meaning. Consistent, small gestures are more powerful than big ones. You can see that with almost any practice, consistency leads to better and bigger results.

As dark as the world seems, there will come a point where you realise you can’t change it all but you can change yourself. Each action has a different outcome. Your effort is what matters not the result.

When you hurt someone else, whether it’s out of being honest or for the sake of causing them pain, your mind dwells on it. You feel uneasy and remind yourself of that incident. Over time, this feeling turns into regret for causing another soul such harm. The only way to turn your regrets into lessons is to find the reason for them happening. They won’t go away if you brush them aside. Everything unsettled resurfaces at some point and it happens when we least expect it.

The How shows you the way to your purpose. The path, or the Light, as some might call it. It’s the fuel for your curiosity, the journey you must take to achieve your purpose.

The problem is that the best journeys are always the toughest ones to take. It’s those challenges that rip you to pieces and make you want to put the pieces back together. You make them fit better the next time.

The beauty of how is it pushes you to gain knowledge. You start by learning something then applying it. You test it to see for yourself, if and how it works.

The ugly part of how is that information nowadays is confusing. It’s hard to pinpoint which opinion you should listen to and which one you shouldn’t. There are bits of truth everywhere. But do you know what you’re looking for? How do you learn? Do you sign up for the first life coach ad you see?.

You’ll get better results if you understand your perception. Start from there.

“Wisdom is knowing the purpose of life, and knowing how to achieve it.” — Leo Tolstoy

Understanding yourself

Simple questions are easy to ask but difficult to answer. There is a vision that very few people have. It comes from years of mistakes that distort and shatters the whole reality you are living.

No one has to make others gain this vision. It comes to those that challenge things until they become a part of them. Challenges happen to us every day in the smallest of ways. The way each of us handles them is different.

There are always 2 ways of answering questions, with emotions and logic. The point that connects the 2 leads you to the truth.

Science proved that we understand and communicate with emotions first. Female energies are the ones that have the power to manifest into reality. In science, that force is Magnetism. The movement of things. Nothing ever stops moving and the only way to go is forward. The intention is what drives this movement. A pulse much like your heartbeat that makes your inner waters flow. This is the why.

What you do with this intention defines your actions. With the masculine in you, logic, you can figure out which ones you need to take. The drive, courage and will that will direct your movement. This is the how.

We are the children that sprung from these energies. Both of them are in each of us. 60–40, the dominant one based on our gender. What you're looking for is balance. The perfect place to be is in the middle.
