Are you in your 60’s and single? Whether you are solo by chance or by choice, enjoy your independence because you’re not alone.

As it turns out, being single and over 60 is trendy. According to the US Census, over 40 million adults ages 65 and older represent 13 percent of the US population. In the year 2030, the entire Baby Boomer generation will be over 65 or older. This percentage is expected to increase to 20 percent.

The US is getting older and becoming more single.

The same census revealed that 28 percent of the American population were living alone and liking it.

Singles of all ages are living full lives today. They are happy with their lifestyle, are far from lonely or isolated, and enjoy their independence. Studies show that single men and women tend to be more socially involved than married couples. While married couples “turn inward”, solos tend to be a caring, social group.

This tells us that most Americans spend more time solo than in a committed relationship over their lifetimes — especially after the age of 60. It means that solo is no longer just “a stop” on the way to “a happy ending”.
