I’ve been a skincare enthusiast for a while now and have been researching products, techniques, and ingredients in order to get my skin to look its best. And who doesn't want that?

I always advise people to start off with a straightforward skincare routine, targeting the main concerns. But even with few products, most of us tend to overuse them initially, for faster results.

But like in many other cases, efficiency implies patience. Less is, in skincare, more. How?

  • First of all, fewer products allow your skin barrier to regenerate and heal on its own. Moreover, fewer types of products mean fewer active ingredients, which are well known for messing with the skin barrier if overused.
  • Second of all, “less” can also refer to the frequency of usage. A morning and night routine is more than enough, you don't need to use products during the day, except sunscreen of course!

This brings us to the question: when is more, more?

When it comes to SUNSCREEN and HYDRATION.

Sunscreen is the only skincare product generally accepted as a must in any routine. Find a sunscreen that you will use every day, use the 3 fingers rule and apply every 2 hours! In time, your skin will improve drastically.

Hydration is such a game changer, whether you have dry, normal or oily skin. Hydrating oily skin with lightweight products will reduce the amount of sebum produced. Hydrating products, such as hyaluronic acid and peptides will regenerate and strengthen the skin barrier, preventing your skin from losing moisture. Therefore, the healing process of affected, irritated, acne-prone skin becomes faster.

The easiest way to ensure efficient hydration is to pair up products this way:

  • morning routine: hydrating essence or toner, followed by a fast-absorbing moisturizer (and sunscreen, of course) for extra hydration, you can try a sunscreen enriched with hyaluronic acid
  • night routine: serum (a plumping serum, like hyaluronic acid) and a rich, thick moisturizer or a night mask (the LaRoche Posay Cicaplast acts as both)

Personal Experience

When I started off in skincare, I underestimated the benefits of sunscreen, as well as the importance of less exfoliation, and more hydration. Now that I know, I want to dedicate some of my articles to skincare advice. If you wanna know more, make sure to follow me on Instagram as well:
