Sobriety: Embarking on a new journey

A Drinkers Lent
It’s the start of a new year, leading many of us to state that it’s January. So I am going to do what has become coined as “Dry January” or “Dry Jan.” For the uninformed, it’s a form of lent for consumers of alcoholic beverages, be it wine, beer/cider, or spirit drinkers worldwide.
We declare we will forgo ethanol no matter how it’s been produced for at least 30 days (I know January has 31 days, but most of us would have likely been celebrating the coming in of the new year with a drink or several until the early hours of the first), depending on when the first weekend of February commences. This year, it’s rather convenient as February starts on a Saturday.
This has become an annual routine, where we give/try to give our bodies a little detoxification, a wee bit of a cleanse, as we attempt to start the year off on the right foot. However, that all too often ends up lasting maybe a couple of weeks, depending on your frame of mind, where you are, your age, etc. Trust me, when I was in my 20s, there was no way in hell I was not going to drink…
