This article is written for those of you who wondered why your toxic ex appears to have a perfected radar for when you are finally moving on — and make this their opportunity to resurface. Still without any plans on committing to you or being consistent.

Some of you may be too young to remember, but in 1974 Stephen King's short story ‘Sometimes They Come Back’ came out. If you have not read it or watched the movie, then here is a brief synopsis.

In 1957 the big brother of the main character, Jim, is killed by a bunch of ‘greasers’. The killing haunts Jim for decades, and when he returns to his hometown for a teaching job in 1974, the murderers appear as students in his classroom. They are found to have stagnated in age and are still young, mean and causing problems. Eventually, their souls are dragged back to hell after a battle with a demon. The story ends with the chilling reminder that while demons can be summoned and banished, “sometimes they come back.”
