Born 03/23/1962 in England. He grew near the River Thames and took up rowing at age 16. Redgrave was the first rower to win five consecutive Olympic gold medals.
His winning streak began at the 1984 Los Angeles Games and continued at Seoul, Barcelona, Atlanta, and Sydney.
Besides his six Olympic medals, five gold and one bronze in Seoul. Redgrave won nine world championship gold, two silver, and a bronze medal.
He also earned three Commonwealth Games gold medals.
“When my first child, started to learn the alphabet, we brought home cutout wood letters. When I picked up a lower-case letter ‘a’, my wife pointed out that I was holding it the wrong way round — but it seemed pretty normal to me.”
