The true measure of a company’s greatness is the volume and consistency of the greatness of its teams. It’s as simple as that.

You might be sitting on the best idea in the history of the universe, but it’s all for nothing if you can’t execute. Great teams, however, can achieve success with a mediocre plan. They’re dynamic and will iterate & adjust until they have something worthwhile to pursue.

It’s not enough to have one great team or a couple of great teams, either. Having high great team density ensures consistency across the organization and minimizes weaknesses and vulnerabilities to external threats.

Building great teams is hard because teams are made of people, and people have different needs, motivations, skills, and interests. There’s one metric that seems to be present universally on high-performing teams, though. When it comes to measuring team effectiveness, look for engagement.
