Tension

A Poem

Photo by Norbert Tóth on Unsplash

Spread between the poles of the day
I grab at the wires
that are suspending everything
This isn’t a pause:
it’s a movement through the acid
of bad ideas
of constant ones
The knife that is so
conspicuously absent does not come running
to anyone’s screams
From across the room
every view seems to throb with this
ugly penchant for standing
so far apart
