The Advancement of Civilization: A Moral Pursuit
Civilization is often thought of as the advancement of society in terms of technology, infrastructure, and culture. However, according to philosopher Henri Amiel, the foundation of civilization is morality. He believes that without truth, respect for duty, love for one’s neighbor, and virtue, everything will fall apart. In other words, the morality of society is the basis of civilization.
