Start your journey by moving north, pass Akureyri, visit Godafoss and other breathtaking waterfalls without forgetting the Geysers and Lake Myvatn.

After the journey through Southern Iceland to Hofn, it’s time to head north. Starting from Reykjavik, we head north with the final destination being Lake Myvatn. Unlike the southern part, the northern part is much less visited and therefore is less touristy.

It is good to remember that from the end of October at the latest it starts to snow and the roads become dangerous if you are not careful driving.

Starting our journey from Reykjavik and heading north, the first village we meet is called Borgarnes where the local supermarket (called Bonus) and a petrol station are available. As already mentioned in the previous articles, it is always good to never go below the middle of the petrol tank in order not to end up in unpleasant situations.

After several hours of travel and after enjoying the breathtaking views that Iceland can offer, we arrive at the most important city in the north of Iceland: Akureyri.

The North: The city of Akureyri
