The Best of Us
Poem
The best of us knew where the stars were,
And went outside to go look for them.
The best of us heard some screams from space,
And made out maps and calculations out of them.
The best of us befriended machine,
And then there were walking cars
And talking televisions,
And friendly train stations,
And silly games.
The best of us lived for here,
Dining with the moon
And fooling around under the greatest of trees.
The best of us grew flowers here,
Because what were we without oxygen?
And what were we without the pretty little things?
The best of us found diamonds here,
Because this was our world.
And what were we without our glamorous selves?
