The Corporate World is Built On the Patriarchy
How do we make more spaces for women to bring their feminine energy?
I’m realizing the corporate world and all that comes with it is set up for men — it’s inherently patriarchal. The way time is structured, the way language is spoken, hell, even the temperature in office buildings is set for men.
I’d like to break this system. I’m not yet sure how but I think the first step is speaking out about the rigid, patriarchal structures that have limited women’s growth in the corporate world.
I work for a start-up but we have many corporate clients. Recently, I decided to be open and honest (and quite frankly, utterly vulnerable) with a woman in a corporate position who is one of our clients. I am going through early perimenopause, and I am struggling.
I made a small error and decided to be open with her. I let her know I was in early peri and was having a difficult time with brain fog.
I didn’t share this as an excuse but as a hopeful way to connect with another woman who is probably in the same boat, and she was! She dropped her corporate speak and connected with me on a human level.
I want more of this. I want spaces for real connection. We spend most of our adult lives working. Why shouldn’t we…
