President Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden indulged in a war of words on Thursday, October 22, 2020, for the final presidential debate at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. The final debate consisted of six segments — Fighting COVID-19, American Families, Race in America, Climate Change, National Security, Leadership — and was moderated by Kristen Welker, White House correspondent for NBC news. Following Trump’s COVID-19 diagnosis in early October, the second presidential debate, scheduled for October 15, was canceled after the President’s refusal to appear virtually.

In his opening answer on the subject of the coronavirus crisis, Trump praised his administration and claimed that a therapeutic was “ready” and was “going to be announced within weeks.” Welker followed up the President’s claims by asking if his timeline was realistic. “Your own officials say it could take well into 2021 at the earliest for enough Americans to get vaccinated, and even then they say the country will be wearing masks and distancing into 2022,” she said.
