How Coffee Caused Me to Gain Nearly 10 Pounds
After stepping on the scale at a recent doctor’s visit, I was shocked to see that I had gained nearly 10 pounds. I have always been more or less on the leaner side for most of my life. Even after having two kids, I somehow managed to lose most of the baby weight. So what had caused this recent uptick in weight?
I did the math in my head, trying to attribute it to the fact that I was wearing winter clothing and weighing myself after my morning coffee. But I knew that could only account for a couple of pounds. What about the rest of them?
I considered my diet. I ate fairly healthy for the most part, although I was by no means perfect: Breakfast, morning coffee, lunch, coffee, light snack, afternoon coffee, and dinner, followed by the occasional sweet.
And then it hit me: Coffee was the culprit.
You see, I had only started drinking coffee after the birth of my two children out of sheer desperation. I was quite frankly exhausted, and reluctant to go back to my old friend Diet Coke, which I had given up a while ago.
At first, I wasn’t a huge fan of the taste, yet I still drank it for the boost it gave me. But more recently, I had started splurging on fancy coffee drinks…
