Honey (a PayPal company) has come under fire recently for what appear to be fraudulent and predatory practices. The situation is complex, especially if you aren’t in referral marketing, so I made a fictional analogy to illustrate it.

Note: This scandal should infuriate not just the influencers who are losing sales, but the consumers who are being lied to about the “best deals” they’re being shown. Read this article, share this story and delete Honey ASAP.

Scam Level #1

You need a new computer and decide to shop at your local tech store. The store pays its employees commissions when they help a customer make a purchase.

The commissions are low, between 1% and 4% of the sale price, but they make a big difference for the employees who rely on them to pay their bills.

In fact, some of the employees are paid only in commissions. They could theoretically work all day and make no money.
