Over the past few years, chocolate has been widely eaten by many people around the world. According to a recent study, it has been discovered that, unlike other sweets, not only can chocolate provide energy but it also can change your mood instantly. Chocolate can help you to take care of your heart health, lower cholesterol and help it stay in control. It has been observed that consuming chocolates regularly, with adequate portions helps you prevent memory decline. Moreover, dark chocolate is considered to be the healthiest type of chocolate as it helps control blood pressure, improves eyesight, boosts metabolism, prevents hair loss and damage, and much more. Now that we know so much about the benefits of eating confectionery, let’s dive deeper into the history of how your favourite chocolate came into existence.

Originally, chocolate was introduced and used in Mexico many centuries ago. It was usually considered as a king of a bitterish drink usually afforded by the rich people of that era. It was not very opulent but overall costly because of its medicinal use. Chocolate, in its liquid form, was used in family rituals and it was also used as medicine. The Mayans wrote about this being used in celebrations and jollifications.

The Mayans praised chocolates as sacred and devotional drinks used for healing various injuries. Chocolate was historically known as “Xocolatl” meaning “bitter water”. Sounds a little surreal right? Well, this was how chocolate initially started popularizing itself. Very few people actually know that chocolate was also used by soldiers to prepare themselves for wars. So, the next time you are having a fight with someone, don’t forget to consume chocolates before its occurrence. That was just a joke, but the usage of chocolate by soldiers was all the truth.

Being invented in Mexico, without taking much time, it soon reached Spain. According to the history of chocolates, it is known that Hernán Cortés brought chocolate to his homeland in the early 16th century in the year 1528. Chocolate was served as a liquid until now. Later on, sugar and honey were mixed along with the Mexican bitter water. This practice was popularized and soon, Spanish chocolate recreationally made its fame. The Spanish kept their recipe a secret from others.

In 1615, French King Louis married Anne of Austria who was the daughter of a Spanish, King Phillip. Chocolates were being produced by hands until now, it underwent some alterations and then with the evolution of modern technology, chocolate was now produced with the help of huge machines and modern tools for preparation. This is how chocolate evolved from being known as “bitter water” to being known as “Sweet bar”. Nowadays, there are many tasty dishes made from chocolate.

Even today, some of the world’s top leading brands make some changes in their recipe and drive us crazy with their tastes. Today, the most-rated chocolate brands are- Cadbury, Ferrero Rocher, Lindt, The Hershey Company, Guylian, Galaxy, Snickers, Milka, Campco and the long list continues to go high. To be briefer, Cadbury is the oldest chocolate brand founded by John Cadbury in 1824. This brand started off with being launched in a grocer’s shop in Birmingham, England.
