The Key Isn’t Just Starting, It’s Trusting (Here’s Why)

Trusting is an often overlooked act. If we don’t trust in what we do, we live in the uncertainty of the moment. Many of us embark on projects that lead nowhere.

The issue isn’t that we can’t reach our destination, it’s that we lack trust. For some reason — or a series of unsuspected reasons — many of us don’t trust ourselves enough.

We engage in things merely believing that by starting them, we already have the guaranteed ticket to success. The reality is that most of the time, that’s not the most accurate answer.

Because once again, trust is what gives purpose and meaning to whatever we do. It’s not about doing things just for the sake of doing them and leaving everything to fate.

Obviously, it doesn’t mean we must have every detail of what we do hyper-defined. Far from it, in fact, I’d venture to say that’s precisely the least important part.

It’s more about feelings than intellect. Because yes, what really matters when doing what we do is how we feel about it.

This is where trust plays its best role. If we feel confident in what we do, we’ve already covered half the distance. Even if we’re not entirely sure where we’re being pushed.

Even if we’re not entirely sure where we’re being pushed. Having confidence in the unknown is one of the most rewarding ways to get where we wanted to go in the first place.

Even if intellectually we had barely any idea of it, emotionally, we already had it more or less clear. Most of the things we do — even if they are intellectual — carry an imprint of our feelings.

That’s what gives purpose to what we do.

And yes, that’s what makes others connect with us and prefer content created by humans. When machines reach the level of emotions, maybe we’ll appreciate more what they produce.

For now, humans tend to prefer human contact. Human contact gives us confidence, and that’s what we seek in other human beings. We need people who trust themselves.

If we want to get wherever we aim, we have to understand that trust is the ingredient that will take us where we want to go, not nowhere.
