What is luck?
Whenever I hear the word lucky, I think of that classic Clint Eastwood line from Dirty Harry, his .44 magnum in hand, and saying: “You’ve gotta ask yourself a question. Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?” (see video here) Fortunately, that’s not the kind of luck we’re talking about.
Luck is one of those words we throw around without much thought. We say someone was lucky to get a job, to meet the right person, or to stumble onto the right idea at the right time. But if we pause for a moment and give it some thought, we start to realize just how lucky we already are.
We are so fortunate to have been born at this time in history. Never before has life been so comfortable, convenient, or connected. Today, we carry in our pockets what used to fill entire libraries and the results of countless laboratories. Much of what we take for granted today was inconceivable only a century ago.
