Starting with the article, I want to note down the history of how books were read in ancient times. First of all, long ago; when people did not have novels and stuff to read, they only used to read religious texts to grow their belief in their religion because these were the only books available originally. Books like Bible, Quran, Gita, and more were read by them. When they were educated on how to read and write, identify words, formation of words, compound sentences, spellings, and finally they knew how to write books.

Reading from a book was considered dinnertime entertainment from the Roman era to the 19th Century. The first ever written English novel was Robinson Crusoe, by Daniel Defoe.

Now that we know the history of reading books, Let us go through the advantages of ‘Reading’.

A room without books is like a man without a soul.

Some people just hate reading so much that they only read their school textbooks for the sake of studies. They would be grateful to you if you said that they could study without reading. They find books boring, the reason is that it makes them feel sleepy and they believe it is just a waste of time. But the reality is something OPPOSITE. Reading textbooks is okay, but children should be given books other than their textbooks to read. They need to think out of the box, and this will happen only when they read content out of the syllabus. To be honest, I did not read any book except my textbooks until grade 5. But, ever since I started reading books like novels, I have observed immense development in my personality.

  1. Improving Vocabulary-

Firstly, books help in improving vocabulary in a great way. I realized this when I recently attended a zonal-level scrabble competition. At first, I was frustrated. I thought I would experience the agony of loss because I never played scrabble before. As and when I was playing my moves, I got to know that it was just a game of words and the only thing you need to have to win in it is good Vocabulary.

2. Solution to your problems-

When you read books, you come across quotes that match your real-life situations. Some instances in the novel are the same as your life. No book is left with a problem in it that is without a solution. If you are facing the problem as same in the book, you will surely find a solution too. If you are depressed about something, books provide tips and tricks that help you fight your problems and get back to your initial lifestyle. A book has a solution to all your problems. Books are the biggest source of information and knowledge.

Previously, when Wikipedia was not in use, people majorly referred to libraries for books to read. They got all the inspiration and education from the books themselves.

3. Saving Resources-

Nowadays, there are E-books available over the internet that you can read. It helps you to save money and resources. You might read a book once, twice, thrice, and then never even look back at it again. Thus, E-books are the only solution. You can read E-books on rent or purchase them, or even read for free! This will save a lot of your money, and also, pages won’t be unnecessarily wasted. If you are a person who reads a book only once, you must give E-reading a try!

Lastly, I wrote this article to spread awareness about reading more and more books. The few hours that you spend on your smartphones can be spent reading books. Those few hours will provide you with information that your smartphone will waste. Ask your kids to read instead of letting them play video games all day long.

That’s it for this article. Looking forward to writing more of these content soon. Thank you for reading!
