When we think about a genius, our mind immediately relates it to Einstein or Steve Jobs. Many have even argued that these two people were the only ever geniuses to exist; it is most likely so because of their cultural and social impact.

A genius is defined as a person who has a remarkable intellectual or creative function.

So, what exactly makes someone a genius?

When we ask people about it, most of them will push it all on genetics, that is, the geniuses are just born geniuses. While we do agree that there are definitely some people who seem to have a level of ability of skill that defies belief, being a genius is a lot more in-depth.

Steve Jobs- Founder of Apple inc., mentioned countless times that his ideas often came out of intuition or were very random. So what exactly does it take?

It’s more of a crossover of intuition, creativity, and knowledge. What lies in between is what we’d call the thinking process of a genius. Many people are geniuses. But very few are actually able to go from the moment of creation to the conception. Those who do; become undoubtedly well-known. Those people are able to push the boundaries of human thoughts and the general understanding of our daily lives while owning all of their actions.

The Brains Of geniuses.

There has not been much proof of how the mind of geniuses usually varies from those of ‘normal’ people but in a 1999 analysis of Einstein’s brain, it was proven that his brain was slightly smaller than the average. However, certain parts of it were definitely on the wider side and those larger areas have been linked to mathematical and spatial reasoning. It was also seen that he was missing certain nerves in his brains, that’s also why many people called him crazy back then. These absences, although, were to his benefit. Researchers found that this helped the different regions of his brain communicate better.

From this, it has been vastly concluded that the brain plays a large role in determining a person’s mental game and intelligence.

What differentiates genius and intelligence?

Similar to genius, the intelligence of a person can be difficult to define or quantify. In fact, there is an entire field of education devoted to measuring intelligence excessively; known as psychometrics.

Even when regular studies are done through this field, many do not agree on what exactly intelligence is. While indeed yes, a genius can be intelligent in some cases, not all of them perform well in school or do well in their exams, even their IQ exams.

Researchers argue that intelligence is in fact influenced by many factors:

  1. Their logical thinking
  2. Their ability to understand
  3. Their ability to learn

I myself often say, being a hard worker does not mean there is intelligence. While certainly, both coinciding will create wonders, but more often being good at memorization is definitely not intelligent.

Even though geniuses are said to have a photographic memory, Steve jobs definitely stated his disagreement with this opinion in various interviews.

Conclusion

Many of us could be geniuses and not even be aware of it. While most of us are closed off in an education system that goes on for more than 10 years and which also encourages parrot learning. Our creativity dies down and snatches the ‘ability to think out of the box’ from us.

In the end, it’s really our choice and our path. It’s our life after all.
