The Mirror of Consciousness: The Analogy That Changed My Life
There is a mirror of consciousness. It’s pristine. It knows no limitation. It fears nothing that reflects in it because it is never touched by any reflection.
However — dust can collect on this mirror. A particle of dust collects on this mirror every time we say no to life.
They are particles of resistance.
Before long, we collect so much resistance that it becomes almost a thin veneer, dimming the bright reflection of the light of aliveness it shines with.
In our common Self-help paradigm, we believe that we can remove this dust.
Why wouldn’t we? It causes all the problems we seem to have. Arguments. Grief, sadness, shame, suffering.
So we try to change ourselves, better ourselves or evolve ourselves.
We resist the dust. And rightly so. It seems to prevent us from truly feeling alive. Which is synonymous with happiness.
But here is the challenge. The dust is made of resistance. To resist the dust would be to take a dusty hand and to try and remove the dust that is already there. We would simply add more dust.
The problem with this is that in the need to change or better ourselves, we express the need for our experience to change.
