Job boards like The Mom Project are an excellent place for new freelancers to get their first projects
The online marketplace can be an overwhelming place for a brand new freelancer. If you search for “how to get started as a freelancer,” you’ll see hundreds of articles on the latest trends and how you can make a ton of money almost overnight.
But most freelancers don’t experience that kind of immediate success. Instead, they jump on sites like Upwork and Fiverr, submit proposals, and hear crickets.
The lack of response is pretty predictable… As a new freelancer, you don’t have a portfolio or client reviews to give you credibility. You’re one of a thousand faceless people clamoring for attention. It’s hard to stand out in that crowd.
On the other hand, job boards can be an underrated source of freelance work — especially for the beginner. There is often far less competition, and connecting with your potential employer is easier.
