The Money-Status Trade-Off: Why Most Digital Writers Struggle Financially
What You Optimize for Matters
It took me 4 years to realize this harsh truth, but I’ll teach you in less than 6 minutes:
Likes and followers will not necessarily increase your bank balance.
When you read it on the screen as you screen, it sounds logical, right? Yet, many writers are stuck in Lala land. Rather than fixing their outcomes, they’re getting high off the dopamine hits from the attention they get on their posts — even though it’s killing their business.
I’ve been there too.
People see the 40,000+ followers I’ve amassed across my two platforms or hear me talking about being a top 6% Medium earner and instantly assume I’m one of the financial elites in the digital writing space.
This couldn’t be further from the truth.
Don’t get me wrong — I earn a decent living… but it’s nothing like the people who make $20,000+ monthly while working 4 hours a day, doing the exact same work as me.
For the past 4 years, I’ve been blinded by my ego (like most digital writers).
It looks something like this:
Post → grow → make no (or little) money → repeat.
